Family Business SWOT Analysis

FAMILY BUSINESS
and
SWOT ANALYSIS

Family business SWOT analysis produces results!

SWOT analysis is easy to do – it can be done with paper and pencil and doesn’t require any experience to make it work!

“When family businesses ask what they can do to improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of their family’s business, my first response is to recommend they consider doing a SWOT analysis,” says leading family business expert Don Schwerzler.

The SWOT analysis process can be used on the entire business, a single department or critical functions such sales and marketing.

"When a new member of the family is joining the business, having them conduct a SWOT analysis is a great way for them to learn each element of the business and the results can lead to huge opportunities for innovation,” notes Schwerzler. “The SWOT analysis can make a good business better – or make the difference whether a family business survives, especially in dealing with the current economic conditions”.

Schwerzler has been studying and advising family businesses for more than 40 years and is the founder of the Family Business Institute.

Success stories can be powerful motivators to family businesses. If you are a family business and have created significant results using the SWOT Analysis technique, we invite you to post your story on our site – it could inspire other family businesses to try family business SWOT analysis!
