FAMILY BUSINESS FORUM

Our "on-line" Family Business Forum invites suggestions and recommendations from family business owners – ideas from the family business entrepreneurs who create most of the new jobs in America and produce more than 50% of our Gross Domestic Product.

"The politicians in Washington listen to big business, the unions, and other lobbying groups, but seldom pay heed to the needs of family businesses - the economic backbone of our country," suggests leading family business expert Don Schwerzler.

Schwerzler has been studying and advising family business entrepreneurs for more than 40 years and is the founder of the Atlanta-based Family Business Institute. "We hope this Forum section will enable family businesses owners to make their opinion known, whether it be a comment on government policies and regulations or a tip for other family business owners."

Today, the American economy is THE major concern for evey family business owner. The out-of-control spending by governments (federal, state and local) causing the country’s fiscal crisis may be more of a threat to family-owned businesses than any other business segment. For many family business owners, their attention has shifted from succession to survival.

Simply stated, the policies and practices of the federal government!

The American economy was torpedoed by the policies of the federal government that encouraged banks and other lending institutions to provide mortgage funding to individuals who were not credit worthy. That was the first problem.

The second problem is the federal government trying to “help” the American economy by dumping trillions of dollars into new programs, with little or no oversight, to “bail-out” large banks and auto makers that are on life support systems.

It proves the old adage that two wrongs do not make a right! Clearly what Washington is trying to do is simply not working.

Hopefully our Forum will be a platform from which family business owners can present ideas and suggestions to the politicians in Washington!

Moreover, our on-line Forum can be a place where family business owners can share successful business building strategies with other family business owners.
