1. Our Managing Director Announces -

When Catastrophe Strikes

When bad things happen to good people it's often difficult to find answers to "why" or for what reason catastrophe has struck.

Almost always there is a human lesson to be learned and/or an acknowledgment of faith to be realized. Rarely does one find situations where the person involved has the strength of character to use his personal situation to present a learning opportunity to others - an endeavor that in itself becomes a "silver lining" to an otherwise serious problem.

Allan Gardyne is one of the recognized Internet experts - an industry pioneer who has earned the respect of his friends and colleagues - even his competitors!

A solid thinker and a gifted writer, Allan, although I have never met him, comes across as a genuine "nice guy" - someone you would enjoy working with or just, as the young folks put it, hanging out. We recommend his Associate Programs site and newsletter as one of two essential resources for those aspiring to be successful affiliates.

Allan has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia - a very serious illness.

Allan shared the news of his illness with the readers of his newsletter this past week and in doing so, Allan addresses one of the most serious OBLIGATIONS an entrepreneur has to both business and family - and that is to protect the family business legacy.

People who know me understand how passionately I preach about family business policies and practices that make the difference between success and failure. Many of these strategies are formulated to prevent "mission stoppers" from happening - and to create order from the chaos when when catastrophe does strike.

Contingency planning (for oh so many busy entrepreneurs that translates to something other people need to do...) is a broad umbrella that covers almost every element of a family owned business. "What happens if...." should be a routine exercise for every family business.

Without belaboring the point, I would direct your attention to several pages on our site. After reading Allan's account of the reflections and the insights he gained during his hospitalization - please take time and review some of these pages. Allan's observations could have a major impact on your business and your family.

Some of the ideas and strategies on our web site I urge you to read and review include:

Contingency Planning

Family Mission Statement

Business Plans

Succession Planning

Insurance Checklist

Risk Assessment

SWOT Analysis

Exit Planning

Environmental Liability

Affiliate Programs

All of us at Family Business Experts wish Allan and his family God Speed.

Whether to contribute, challenge (or hopefully even praise) our newsletter, I encourage you to contact me directly Don, or our editor David.
Enjoy, and here's wishing you, your family, your clients... much success!
