Family eBusiness

It's No Longer
"Do We Need a Web Site?"
Now It's
"How Do We Make Our
Family eBusiness Successful?"

family ebusiness

Family eBusiness reflects a reality for most family businesses.

Once upon a time - just a few years ago! - it was still acceptable to ask "if" a family business should go online.

Many didn't.

Fewer did.

Some of those who did actually met with some degree of success online, but more didn't.

Why the difference amongst family businesses: Did the few have inside information? Greater foresight? Access to programmers and techies? Did the others just have bad luck? Or a valid reason for not going online?

Actually, the answer to all of those questions is a resounding no.

The reality for most family businesses is that the opportunities online far outweigh the difficulties. When you strip the hype and distortion away and look at the situation, it is clearly possible to succeed online.

Family eBusiness will show you how to succeed online based on our own experience at Family Business Experts, which is our online success story that grew out of The Family Business Institute. We'll show you how we used a system - an approach - that has enabled us to reach out far beyond the usual constraints of a consulting practice.

The Family Business Institute was founded in Atlanta Ga in the early 80's. It was the very first multi-disciplinary resource for dealing with the unique and complex issues that impact family-owned businesses.

Our concepts for growing family businesses, while maintaining healthy family relationships, were cutting edge. However our marketing efforts were locked on to out-of-date concepts like the need for fancy and expensive brochures and like kinds of printed materials that were simply not getting the job done.

In June, 2001, we launched the first section of our web site - and we have been building it ever since!

We used Site Build It and the web site strategies developed by Ken Evoy. In addition to nearly 500 pages of high-interest content, We use the RSS feature to publish the Family Business Blog and we also publish the e-zine Understanding Family Business

Site Build It is easy to use and it is the least expensive, most effective business building tool available - anywhere!

Today, our web site, www.family-business-experts.com is the highest ranked family business resource on the Internet.

We'll even tell you about some of the things that we did NOT have to deal with but that scared a lot of people away from going online, or caused them problems. And we'll show you how many others have succeeded - small and family businesses like you who don't have an IT [Information Technology] department and staff.

Why not hook up to our RSS feed so that you can follow Family eBusiness as it unfolds over the next while? The link [and directions for those of you who are new too RSS feeds] are at the top of the NavBar over on the left.

Each link below takes you to an article, and that article will have link back to here and its own navigation links for yo to follow around in the rest of the Family eBusiness section.

Our David Jones is a Certified Webmaster for Site Build It! - the system we used for our eBusiness. But he's not a programmer or techie, and you can ask him questions for fr*ee - just use our "ASK THE EXPERT" link or box that appears on every page - just like this.

One of the most frequent reasons I hear when I ask a family business for its web site address is "But we're just a small, local business. We don't need or want to sell to the world. So we don't need to be on the world wide web." And there are hundreds of variations of that statement.!

But that kind of thinking really misses the mark!

We already have a good section to help you determine if going online is right for your family business. Maybe it really isn't right for you, but don't make that decision until you consider all the facts.
