GA plays critical role in national economy
AOPA - with 400,000 members The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is the largest membership organization in the field of General Aviation. Organized in May of 1939, one of the first political actions was to promote the Civilian Pilot Training Program. That Senate bill enabled thousands of people to train for their pilot certificates using a government subsidy. The legislation also helped to encouraged the growth of the general aviation industry. It offers training and information for its members, plus much, much more. It is an advocacy organization that has proved extremely helpful in promoting general aviation. It also offers scholarships for young people interested in careers in aviation.
